New Year Russia

The Russians have an unusual tradition of sprinkling ash into their champagne. As the last chimes of

the old year ring, a wish for the new year is written on a piece of paper, which is then burned and the ashes poured into a glass of champagne.  According to tradition, the wish will come true if the glass is emptied on the stroke of midnight.
