Created by Bruno Cora', this show presents a 'close encounter' between Alberto Burri and Lucio Fontana, in 100 paintings, sculptures, drawings and graphics that demonstrate the focal points in their creative paths. The poetics of these two leading 20th century artists are also compared, from Burri's "primacy of matter" to Fontana 's "spatial thought". Feast of St. Nicholas - Bari - Italy

In 1087, some sailors from Bari stole the body of St. Nicholas from Myra ( the present-day Demre in Asia Minor) and took it back to their city. The saint, a worker of miracles venerated in both the East and West, has been worshipped in Bari ever since, in one of Italy's most beautiful folk festivals. decorated with spectacular lighting, the city hosts religious rites and processions, historical re-enactments (including a parade with 400 marchers in medieval costume), concerts and fireworks. The centre of festivities is the Old Village, with the marvellous basilica dedicated to the saint, where his remains have lain for nine centuries. Date: 8 and 9 May 2010 www.commune.bari.it

Marsala's most important annual religious event is the Processione del Gioved i Santo (Holy Thursday procession). A tradition dating back centuries, the procession features actors depicting the events leading up to Christ's crucifixion. Many children participate in the procession, dressed in colourful costume as saints. If you're visiting the area at Easter, be sure to attend both this procession and Trapani's own version on Good Friday.
