Cathedral of St. Fethlimidh - Kilmore, Ireland

T he Cathedral is situated on a wooden hill not far from the shores of Lough Oughter. According to tradition, it is here that St. Fethlimidh founded a small church in the 6th century. The present Cathedral was completed in 1860. The cathedral is built in the Middle Pointed Gothic style. The stained glass windows are a colourful and attractive feature.  In addition, an original copy of the first translation of the Old Testament into Irish can be seen.  This was undertaken by Bishop Bedell who presided here from 1629 - 16.42.   Other features in the grounds include a Holy Well; the remains of the Episcopal House built in 1620 and a motte and bailey with 18th ice house. St Kilian's Heritage Centre - Mullagh, Ireland

St Kilian's Heritage Centre celebrates the life of Kilian, a 7th century saint born in Mullagh.  During his mission to modern-day Germany, Kilian was martyred, and is now one of the patron saints of Wurzburg in Germany. T:    +353 (0)46 924 2433 E:    stkiliancentre@eircom.net
