The museum tells the story of Mountmellick's rich Quaker heritage.   The first Quaker families arrived in Mountmellick in the mid 1600s.  Their industrious nature and honest ways created prosperity, wealth and employment and the development of Mountmellick work, a unique Irish form of white on white embroidery that was developed in the town in the early 1800's.  The original embroidery designs were inspired by the flora and fauna of the River Owenass. The Rock of Dunamaise is an imposing and magnificent example of the remains of a Celtic fortification overlooking the valley of the O' Moores.  It has a colourful history boasting ownership by Strongbow in 1170 and becoming the Norman's most important fortification. In the fourteenth century it was burned at least twice by the Irish and later ownership went to the Earl of Thomand. It eventually fell into decay in 1795 leaving spectacular remains.  Standing at over 45 meters in height, the ruin dominates the landscape. - Landsort is the last southern outpost of the Stockholm Archipelago, with on outdoor exhibition, barren cliffs and Sweden's oldest lighthouse. Nattaro', Rano', and Alo' have some of the archipelago's and Sweden's best beaches and cultural landscapes.  You can also eat like royalty at the archipelago restaurant Batshaket. (Alo') and others, UTO' can be reached by the boat to Alo' and then by cycle  or on foot.  It is approx 10 km from Alo' Jetty to Gruvbryggan on Uto' All these islands can be reached by Waxholmbolaget's regular hours. Old Culture ***     Osma and Soirunda both have old cultursl landscapes and spectucalur church buildings from the 12th century.  The so-called Runstenvagen has internments, rune stones and other remains from the Iron Age.
