Mountmellick Museum - Co Laois, Ireland
The museum tells the story of Mountmellick's rich Quaker heritage. The first Quaker families arrived in Mountmellick in the mid 1600s. Their industrious nature and honest ways created prosperity, wealth and employment and the development of Mountmellick work, a unique Irish form of white on white embroidery that was developed in the town in the early 1800's. The original embroidery designs were inspired by the flora and fauna of the River Owenass. Mountmellick Museum Irishtown, Mountmellick Co Laois Tel: 057 8624525 Web: www.mountmellickdevelopment.com
