UP and onwards to the palace. From the very first moment the flag of black, red, and gold - Germany's national colors - waved atop the Kastanienberg near Neustadt in 1832. Hambach Palace has been considered the cradle of German democracy and joins St. Paul's Church in Frankfurt and the Reichstag in Berlin as one of the nation's most important symbols of freedom and democracy. Around 30, 000 people took part in the Hambach Festival of 1832, during which they made their way, flags waving, up to the palace to demand unity and freedom. With the permanent "Up and onwards to the palace" we invite you to become a part of the legendary march to the castle and travel back in time to the exciting events of 1832.
