The narrow and winding Fischergasse (fisher lane) with its 16th / 17th century middle-class houses is definitely one of the highlights of the lovingly renovated Old Town. In former times the Rhine fishermen used to live there.   Their guild house has been renovated by a citizen's initiative and is used today as arts centre. The prolongation of the Fischergasse is the Metzgergasse (butcher's lane).  Formerly, it was only here where it was allowed to sell meat and even today there is still a butchery on site.

The huge tower Gallusturm is located in the eastern point of the former island town.   The reason for ts edification was a disastrous  flood in 1343.   Apart from its function as breakwater between the two arms of the Rhine, it also served as an important defence facility.   Since 1973 the local carnival society uses the Gallusturm as  Bastion against moroseness."
