Battlefield 1916 - 1917 Municipality of Recoaro Terme Mount Civillina In the summer of 1916 on the imperial divide border of the current provinces of Vicenza and Trento, units of the combat engineers of General Graziani, helped by numerous civilians including women and children, built an important barrage against the enemy, in order to protect the Vicenza plain, the line developed along the mountainous ridge of the Tre Croci range passing through Campogrosso, up tp Plan delle Fugazze. Gazzera Fort, built between 1886 and 1890, it is the oldest of the forts in the first defence belt of the "Campo Trincerato di Mestre" (Entrechment of Mestre). Essentially similar to the forts of Tron and Carpenedo. It differs from the latter two due to a more faithful construction of the original designs of the "Tunkler" model. In the inside attractive arches connected the various parts of the fort, allowing the garrison to be covered overhead whilst moving around. The particularly compressed areas and the long narrow corridors almost give the impression of moving around inside a medieval manor. Gravestone in memory of the injury of Ernest Hemingway. The great American writer was struck by a piece of shrapnel on 8th July 1918 while carrying out his voluntary service in the section of the American Red Cross which helped the Italian military health service on the front between Fagare' and San Dona' di Piave. There are numerous places which recall the writer, who mentioned the military and human ups and downs of wartime on various occasions in his books. The monument is found on the banks of the Piave, near a pontoon bridge, which is still active, there is....
