Gazzera Fort - Places of the Great War - Venice, Italy
Gazzera Fort, built between 1886 and 1890, it is the oldest of the forts in the first defence belt of the "Campo
Trincerato di Mestre" (Entrechment of Mestre). Essentially similar to the forts of Tron and Carpenedo. It differs from the latter two due to a more faithful construction of the original designs of the "Tunkler" model. In the
inside attractive arches connected the various parts of the fort, allowing the garrison to be covered overhead whilst moving around. The particularly compressed areas and the long narrow corridors almost give the
impression of moving around inside a medieval manor.
