Junibacken is inspired by the places and characters found in the books of Astrid Lindgren. Astrid Lindgren herself was, however, keen that other children's authors and illustrators should br represented as well.  She didn't want Junibacken to become an "Astrid Lindgren museum". The first book about Pippi Longstocking was published in 1945. It marked the beginning of a remarkable writing career. Over 145 million copies of her books are estimated to have been sold. The Pippi books alone have been translated into 64 languages.
