Junibacken is inspired by the places and characters found in the books of Astrid Lindgren. Astrid Lindgren herself was, however, keen that other children's authors and illustrators should br represented as well. She didn't want Junibacken to become an "Astrid Lindgren museum".
The first book about Pippi Longstocking was published in 1945. It marked the beginning of a remarkable writing career. Over 145 million copies of her books are estimated to have been sold. The Pippi books alone have been translated into 64 languages. Other famous works of hers are the books about The Children of Noisy Village, Master Detective Blomkvist, The Brothers Lionheart, Emil of Lonneberga, Ronia the Robber's Daughter, Madicken, Mo, Kajsa Kavat. etc. Plays, songs and films have been made of her books. JUNIBACKEN's MISSION
Junibacken's mission is to ensure that books always remain an important part of children's culture. We will do this by offering games, theatre and other activities in environments taken straight from one best-loved children's books.
