Architecture & Heritage - Upper Rhine Valley, Germany

In the Upper Rhine Valley there's a great deal to experience and explore. Marvel at the many cathedrals like those in Strasbourg, Freiburg and Basel.  Stroll through the winding, narrow streets in the old towns of Colmar and Laufenburg and discover their traditional timber-framed houses.  Striking palaces and castles, and their ruins, crown the hilltops, like the Habsburg in Aargau, the Haut-Koenigsbourg in Alsace, the castle ruins at Drachenfels, Trifels Castle in Palatinate and Karlsruhe's centrally located palace from which the streets radiate out in a fan-shape formation. Even 2000 years ago the landscape proved attractive to the Romans.  Archaeological excavations such as in Augusta Raurica offer an insight into their bathing culture; a culture that has been stylishly preserved in  modern spas such as in Badenweiler and Baden-Baden.  Today, spa visitors can treat themselves to an array of wellness offers for body and soul.
