Historic Vineyards "Castellberg" and carved Oak Tree - Ballrechten Dottingen, Germany

The over 200 years old dry stone walls and paths at the Castellberg form an important habitat for local
and rare fauna and flora.  With support from the federal government, the network of paths and walls is
cared for carefully.  The area, treasured since the Middle Ages by the markgraves of Baden, can be explored through a series of interconnected paths,

The over 400-year old " judgment tree" carved with great devotion and artistry by the sculptor Thomas Rees was destroyed by fire on New Year's Eve in 2016.  The remains have been turned into a new artwork by the sculptor and will be displayed in 2017 with the support of the municipality.
