The Happisburgh Hand- Axe - East Anglia, UK

The Happisburgh handaxe rocked the academic world when it was unearthed in 2000.  This precious artefact radically altered historians understanding of our country's past, revealing that Britain had been inhabited by human beings for 100, 000 years longer than had originally been thought.  The flint hand-axe, which is on display at Norwich Castle Museum, was used by our early ancestors as a butchery tool, carving flesh from skeletons between 500, 000 and 7000, 000 years ago.
