The personal seal matrix of Queen Bathild was discovered in 1999 in a field a few miles east of Norwich. It was originally part of a swivelling finger ring, and its engravings suggest an early Anglo- Saxon date. Closer study and inspection came to associate the object with Bathild, wife and queen of Clovis 11, king of Burgundy and Neustria (639 - 658). She is known to have been an Anglo- Saxon of elite birth, and this personal seal may have been returned to her homeland after her death.
