On the 24th June 1859, the Piedmontese army, under King Victor Emmanuel 11, clashed with the right wing of the Austrian army, led by General Von Benedek. The Museum contains the relics, weapons and uniforms from the battle . A 400-metre spiral ramp leads up to the terrace at the top of the Tower, which contains frescoes depicting the most important stages of the Risorgimento. Campo Gallina di Portule, the hollow of Campo Gallina became one of the main logistics centres of the 6th Div. of the Austro-Hungarian army at the end of the Strafexpedition (June 1916), organised like an actual town with a hospital, general store, cinema and small church, groups of barracks, shelters and warehouses. Inside the large hollow dominated by the imposing "heroes monument" the remains of the hospital can be noted from field no. 1303, the military cemetery and the foundation of the small church.
