Dunsandle Castle is a 15th Century Castle 20 minutes from Galway City.  The Castle is open throughout the summer for guided tours. 20 acres of native woodlands, pathways and picnic areas surround the Castle, allowing visitors to explore and enjoy the natural heritage.  Wheelchair across to car park and the grounds only.  Main events throughout the year include a Father's Day Festival in June and Santa's Castle in December. This is a particularly fine example of a 16th Century Irish Tower House and lies in picturesque surroundings close to the shores of Lough Corrib.  Here visitors will also find the remains of a banqueting hall, a watch tower, an unusual double bawn, bastions and a dry harbour. A 12th century castle remodelled in Victorian times and set in extensive parklands Kilkenny Castle was the principal seat of the Butler family. Due to major restoration works, the central block now includes a library, drawing room and bedrooms decorated in 1830's splendour, as well as the beautiful Long Gallery.
