Hemingway Monument - Piave, Italy
Gravestone in memory of the injury of Ernest Hemingway. The great American writer was struck by a piece of
shrapnel on 8th July 1918 while carrying out his voluntary service in the section of the American Red Cross which helped the Italian military health service on the front between Fagare' and San Dona' di Piave.
There are numerous places which recall the writer, who mentioned the military and human ups and downs of wartime on various occasions in his books.
The monument is found on the banks of the Piave, near a pontoon bridge, which is still active, there is....
