St Brigid's Cathedral & Round Tower - Kildare Town, Ireland
St Brigid's Cathedral is a beautifully restored Norman Cathedral that occupies the site of the original
pagan shrine to the goddess Brigid, the early Christian foundation and church of St Brigid. Designed in an early gothic style with a square central tower, the Cathedral was built in troubled times for defence as well as a place for worship. Between 1223 and 1230 the present Cathedral was built. The grounds of the Cathedral contain a number of fascinating links to the early history of the site including a Round Tower, Celtic Cross and St Brigid's Firehouse.
