Italian Renaissance Drawings- London

British Museum - London

Italian Renaissance Museum

A cooperative effort between the British Museum and the Uffizi in Florence , this show unites
100 drawings by consummate masters of the Renaissance, from 14oo to 1510 . The Renaissance
training of "artistic thought" is retraced through the evolution of the styles and techniques used for
"saving" ideas, but gradually it became a way of defining more precise , naturalistic forms and
perspectives. The new approach was embraced by painters, sculptors and architects, reflecting
the artistic and cultural transversality that was the primary characteristic of the Renaissance.
The exhibition shows how various forms of drawing allowed artists to experiment, exploring
representation of movement and expression of emotion, often with greater freedom than in the finished works. The artists include Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Beato Angelico, Jacopo and Gentile Bellini, Bottecelli Carpaccio, Filippo Lippi, Mantegna, Verrocchiio and Titian.
