Cathedral / Cathedral Square - Bad Sackingen, Germany

The huge cathedral with its characteristic towers reflects the grandeur and importance of the former chapel.   The monastery was founded by the Irish missionary Fridolin and developed during the Middle Ages into a splendid princess convent and religious centre in the High Rhine area.   The cathedral was built during the middle of the 14th century.  Unfortunately there are not many constructions left from former times, except for the crypt under the present- day high choir and other Roman parts of the western and southern part of the cathedral (treasure chamber).

After the fires of 1678 and 1751, the renovations that followed were in Baroque style.   The silver shrine of Holy Father is definitively a remarkable artwork.
