Olive oil is produced on the western shore of Lake Iseo and the Piedmont Hills in the Province of
Bergamo. Only extra virgin oil is produced in these areas and it has a typical mark and an unmistakable low degree of acidity and finesse of aromas. The cultivation of olives in our land also has a significant
environmental importance and helps to enhance the landscape of our hills.
Light and fruity, DOP (protected designation of origin) Sebino oil from the Lombard lakes is a product for connoisseurs, with a rigorous quality certification process supporting it. Some small businesses around Lake Iseo work with this niche product, which often can only be purchased directly where it has been made.
To find them, you have to know the area of Iseo Franciacorta, and while seeking them out you will come across pleasant surprises in the form of landscapes, cultural activities and, of course, food and wine. Oil production is becoming more important : it is particularly carried out in the lake area and can boast of important titles earned at several national competitions, in addition to the DOP status.
Marone, right next to the shore of the lake, is home to the only mill processes the olives using a strictly traditional method, which is interesting to watch for those unfamiliar with olive processing.
