19 th Century:   Time of the Hungarian reform era, a period of economic boom. The first permanent
         
                          bridge, connecting the separate towns, the Chain Bridge as well as the Tunnel were
                         
                          built at that time.

1838 :    The Great Flood.  The Danube's water level is some quarters was as high as 2.6 metres

1848 - 1867:   March 15, 1848 is one of the most important dates in Habsburgs was launched in Pest

                       on this day.  After the Austrian- Hungarian compromise, a metropolis started to be

                       built.

1873 :  The two towns, Buda and Pest were merged into Budapest.  Several emblemantio
         
             constructions, such as the Fishermen's Bastion, Liberty and Elisabeth Bridge. Andrassy

             Avenue and the highly popular shopping street, Vaci Street were built at that time .  Venus for

             entertainment and social life such as the Danube Promenade were developed as well.

1896 -  The Millennium Exhibition and Celebration became the symbol of progress.  The city lay-out

             with its bridges, avenues and modern public transportation system, the first underground line in

             Europe were developed at that time, important public buildings, such as the Parliament were

             built.
