Spiritmuseum - Stockholm Sweden

Sweden's Most Tasteful Museum

More Tasteful Than Ever

The Museum of Spirits is a unique place to meet, focusing on humanity's relationship to alcohol and situated in two 18th century galley sheds on the island of Djurgarden. Here you will encounter the Absolut Art Collection, Scandavia's most distinctive collection, lovely scenery (especially the view), the aromas and flavours of the exhibits and tastings, and what must be the best museum restaurant in Stockholm. And have we mentioned our flavour expert Nadja Karlsson, who was named Sweden's beverage profile of the year in 2014?

'Sweden': Spirits of a Nation's is the museum's biggest standing exhibit. But today, Sweden is a beer country too. The new exhibit, 'Beer', guides visitors through the tastes and aromas, from Viking revels to contemporary tastings. This summer, you can also taste beers from the country's microbreweries on the museum landing.

Simon & Tomas:
Less Is more .... Not!

At the request of the Museum os Spirits, Simon Davies  and Thomas Cederlund - two of Sweden's leading decorators, known from both Swedish and American TV - have been rummaging through the Absolut Art Collection.  They have selected several artworks, design objects and furniture pieces by Andy Warhol, Ettore Sottsass and others that illustrate the Zeitgeist and the transition from the madcap 80s to the thoughtful 90s.  A new exhibition on the legacy of the artist Keith haring opens on September 25.

The Restaurant

The restaurant and outdoor cafe' has a superb location looking out over Wasahamnen.  We added an exciting new culinary dimension last year, when Petter Nilsson of the acclaimed restaurant La gazzetta in Paris became our new chef.  The menu builds on the seasons, climate and local producers, along with each day's fresh impressions and ideas. The natural wines, craft beers and snaps are chosen with care, as befits a restaurant at a museum of spirits.

The Shop

The museum shop contains a choice selection of items relevant to the exhibits: trays bearing spiced snaps motifs.,boozehounds to keep on your desk or a keychain, and books about snaps, wine and beer.  Add the two books issued by the Museum of Spirits, one containing a selection from the Absolut Art Collection and one describing 75 interesting and curious events in Swedish alachol history, from bar to Cliche', from Restaraint to Repression.
