The Viareggio Carnival - Pisa, Italy
The Viareggio Carnival, just outside Pisa dates back to 1873, and has been a visual feast for the eyes ever since, with floats, music, general merriment and mayhem. Parades roll out for the four Sundays preceding Lent
(30 January, 6, 13, and 20 February) but the main event will be Martedi Grasso ( Fat Tuesday) with a glorious
firework display and lengthy processions. The floats are the focal point of each parade and often reach up to 40m tall.
