Marathon of the Sands Marrakech, Sahara
Six days in the Sahara in April
This six-day, 243km race across the Sahara desert is quite rightly considered one of - if not the - toughest
endurance race in the world. Competitors must carry everything they need for the six days, including water,
medical kit, sleeping bag, compass and a minimum of 2,000 calories a day. the tent is the only thing they don't need to carry on their back. And if it wasn't enough, runners have to avoid pitfalls such as crippling blisters,
heat stroke, spiders, scorpions and upset stomachs - not to mention the agony of running with sand in your shoes.
