17th Sydney Biennial - Australia
"The beauty of Distance: Songs of Survival in a Precarious Age" is the show's title, almost a poetic manifesto, chosen by curator David Elliot. The central theme is connection - among places,
cultures, languages and modes of expression that may appear far removed from each other, inter pares conversation among the art and artists of the world at large, as a key to understanding
contemporary complexity. Venues for the biennial include Sydney's most conic locations (the
Opera House, the Royal botanic gardens, Cockatoo Island, the Museum of Contemporary Art, the Artspace centre and the old wharf, Pier 2/3).
Leading the 2010 edition are John Bock, Louise Bourgeois, Fiona Hall, Wang Qingsong, Paul
McCarthy, Brett Graham and cai Guo-Qiang
