Mons: an open history-book - Belgium
Mons has so much history and culture to offer that a single weekend will not be enough.
Start your visit at the Tourist Office in the Grand' Place, one of the most beautiful squares in
Belgium. You will be presented with a full set of brochures covering the attractions of the city and
its surroundings, then you will be shown a multi-media show, then let the city work its magic on you. Wander through its narrow, twisting, hilly streets. Go into St. Waudu's Collegiate Church
and marvel at its treasures. Climb up to the Castle Square and into the Chapel of St Calixtus, now
a museum. then follow in the footsteps of Vincent van Gogh to the Maison de Cuesmes, where
he stayed from 1879 to 1880, which was recently restored and re-opened in May 2007.
Round off your visit with a few hours shopping or catch an exhibition or other cultural event.
