Eiffel's Other Works

Admirers of Eiffel's engineering feats:

LA RUCHE: in Passage Dantzig, Montparnasse. This three-storey circular structure was

designed by Eiffel to be used as a wine rotunda at the Great Exposition of 1900.

LEVALLOIS - PERRET : cemetery, situated in a north- western suburb of Paris, which is

Eiffel's grave.

THE GARABIT VIADUCT: near Ruynes-en-margeride, spanning the Truere river in the

Massif Central, Bridging a valley in a mountainous region like the

Cantal while suspending a train 120 metres above is no task for

the fainthearted but for four years, Eiffel kept at it with gusto.

When the viaduct opened in 1884, it was at the moment the

highest railway bridge in the world.

DOME OF THE OBSERVATOIRE DE NICE: whose ingenious steel structure allows it to move

without friction.

He was also the mastermind behind the glass roof at both Agen and

Toulouse STATIONS as well as crafting the metal shell of the

impressive SYNAGOGUE on Rue des Sevres, which drafted in

Eiffel to extend the premises.

One final piece of Eiffel trivia: is the STATUE OF LIBERTY in New York
