Moss Landing - (CA) USA
At the very north end of Monterey County lies the village of Moss Landing. This small, quaint, fishing village which straddles Highway One is full of hidden treasures for the curious traveller.
For the outdoor adventurer, Moss Landing is the gateway to Elkhorn Slough, one of California's largest wetlands and a national Estuarine Reserve. Elkhorn Slough visitors center is the hb for education programs, displays and special classes, but the real classroom is outside. Hiking trails offer wonderful vistas of the estuaries, mudlands and marshes.
The slough has a wide variety of wildlife, including sea otters, harbor seals and thousands of migrating birds. One of the best ways to visit this intriguing natural wetland is by taking a guided pontoon boat
tour which travels right through the heart of slough, it's winding waterways.
In addition to Elkhorn Slough Preserve, outdoor adventures will enjoy the Moss Landing Wildlife Area as well as the state beaches. Salinas River State Beach, a 246 acre shoreline area is popular for fishing and horseback riding.
Moss Landing's picturesque harbor is one of the busiest harbors on the Central Coast. This historic area offers visitors a chance to see a working commercial fishing harbor in it's quiet out of the way setting.

Laboratories, Moss Landing would be complete without a stop at one or more than 20 antique stores, offering every antique imaginable. For the hungry, Moss Landing boasts numerous delightful restaurants - many of which are located on the water with a relaxing view.
Only 20 minutes from Monterey, it is a fun and pleasurable half or full day trip from the Monterey area. Surfing, fishing, boating, clamming, swimming, sailing or just plain loafing on the beach, the central Monterey Bay area has something for everyone.
