From Sarnico To Lovere - Val Camonica, Italy
The municipality of Sarnico is geographically considered the capital of Southern Lake Sebino, and is an
obligatory crossroad between the Brescia and Bergamo sides of Lake Iseo, which it overlooks. Its position has greatly contributed to its development, so much so that for years has been one of the richest municipalities of Italy. Behind the village are the remains of a quarry, almost abandoned for the famous
' Sarnico stone' dominated by the peaks of the Colle della Rocca. These vertical plates, which enrich the
landscape without making it any less attractive, are visible from many miles away and point the way to the lake itself.
Lake Iseo gives Sarnico remarkable and picturesque landscapes, and you can also make trips on board ferries to other lakeside localities, as well as sampling the gastronomic delights of the area. Sarnico and
Lovere are the major tourist attractions of the lake and the green road route is a connection with the rural places behind the lake. From the point of view of tourism and leisure Sarnico offers many attractions including beaches and tourist facilities. The historical centre has maintained value over the years, and thanks to its facilities and its proximitracts a lot of visitors in summer.
Lovere too it has maintained extraordinary beauty and cultural identity by presenting a historical centre
of ancient formation and a lake front and marina well intergrated with the historical centre, and at the same time a water-front area with many fun tourist attractions and sports facilities including the port, swimming pools, restaurants , cafes
From Sarnco we follow the former 469 state road running alongside the lake, until reaching the hillside
area that includes the towns of Riva di Solto, Solto Collina and Fonteno. We then come to Lovere and on the Via Nazionale, we have to take provinicial road 53 and head alongside the Barlezza river. In the valley of the same name, we find Sovere made up of the villages of Piazza and Sellere, adjacent to the town of Pianico. Again from Lovere, continuing into the Camonica Valley, we come across the towns of Costa Volpino and Regno.
