Thomas Paine is one of Norfolk's most famous and internationally influential sons, Born at Thetford in 1737, he was an author. radical, inventor, and intellectual revolutionary. As one of the Founding Fathers
of the United States, he participated in the American Revolution and even greatly influenced the French
Revolution. He was more known for his book [The Rights of Man 1791] than for his face, but fortunately it was preserved for postperity it was preserved for prosperity in his death mask, made by his friend John Wesley Jarvis.
