Vienna Tourism - Vienna
Emperor Franz Joseph reigned over the Danube monarchy for almost seven decades as the last major ruler of an epoch in decline. The monarch died in Schonbrunn Palace in 1916.
A century has passed since then - and Vienna has transformed itself from an ostentatious imperial capital into a modern center for contemporary art. Imperial might and modern-day avant garde dominate the skyline - side by side .....
Vienna is the world capital of music - and a first-class European art city. Here, where Mozart, Mahler, Hayden, Beethoven and Strauss once worked, 10,000 music enthusiasts listen to live classical music every evening. And people dance the Viennese waltz at 450 balls each year. The historic city center, dozens of castles and over 150 palaces characterize the imperial ambience. More than 100 museums show art from every era.
Viennese cuisine is the only type of cooking in the world to be named after a city. Vienna is also the only metropolis that grows enough wine within the city limits to make it worth mentioning. The
Viennese coffee house is known around the globe for its informal pleasantness, as an oasis of
gemutlichkeit. No wonder that the bistro, wine tavern and cafe' are the foundational pillars of
Vienna's culture of food pleasures in all its enticing variety.
Life is good in Vienna. What the Viennese have long known to be true has now also been officially.
confirmed: The Mercer Study voted Vienna the world's most livable city for the sixth time in a row in 2015. Why? Amongst other things for the large number of green spaces. Even the historic center
attracts with its numerous parks. Vienna also has one of the best functioning urban infrastructures and is considered to be one of the safest cities in the world.
