Public Transport At Sea - Stockholm, Sweden
Public Transport Network in Stockholm, is owned by the Stockholm County Council, Waxholmsbolaget serves some 300 jetties throughout the archipelago, all year round - although the number of departures is somewhat lower off season.
Waxholmsbolaget's home port and main hub is Stromkajen in Stockholm. In addition, we have terminals in Vaxholm and Stavsnas, plus a number of mainland jetties further out.
If for example, you are heading to the islands in the middle of the archipelago, there are many boats departing from vaxhilm, Stavsnas, Boda or Sollenkroka on Varmdo. If you are going to the south, you will find boats leaving from the jetties of Nyynashamn, Dalaro and Arsta. The Northern archipelago
is often reached from Simpnas or Ostana.
During the summer season, Stromma's Cinderellaboats are included in Waxholmsbolaget's timetables.
please note that these tours depart from the dock at Strandvagen and have special tariffs.
Always A Connecting Bus
No matter which jetty your trip departs from, it's easy to get there with a connecting bus or a commuter train [pendeltag]. Since both SL [ stockholm's public transportation company for land traffic] and Waxholmsbolaget are part of the Stockholm public transport network, arrival and departure times are coodinated to reduce your overall journey time.
Departure Times
Current departure times for boats, connecting buses and commuter trains can be found with jouirney planner on our website. You can also download Waxholmsbolaget's mobile app for iOS and Android.
Note that some islands have several jetties, served by different boats. Bear this in mind when using the timetable, so that you get off the boat at the right place.
