Nature, Art, Tradition in the Langa of Hazelnut
Cortemilia is located in Piedmont, in the province of Cuneo approx. 30 kms from Alba. Acqua Terme and Cairo Montenotte. It can also be reached by bus from Alba, Acqui Terme, Asti and Savona.
Cortemilia gets its name from Cohors Aemilia.
In Roman times a fort was built in defence of the territory. It was enlarged and altered in the Middle Ages, but was then completely destroyed by the Spanish in 1635. its high, lookout tower of circular design remains today to dominate the village and testify to the important role played by Cortemilia in past centuries.
Apart from being a historical place. Cortemilia bears witness to major artistic works.
The Pieve di Santa Maria, the charming , clearly Romansque parish church.
The ex-convent church of San Francesco dating back to the X111 century was founded - according to popular belief - by Saint Francis of Assisi.
The Palazzo della Pretura dates back from X1V century.
Food & Wine
Traditional dishes highlights the countless fruits of this land - cheeses, mushrooms, truffles, chestnuts,
hazelnuts - and merges them in extraordinary blends of aromas and flavours. The pasta (ravioli al plin,
tajarin, tartra' - a vegetable and cheese pie - griva (pork meat balls) finanziera (chicken giblets, sweetbread
and mushrooms) and the unbeatable desserts: bunet (chocolate macaroon pudding), hazelnut cakes, parfaits.... The grapes that ripen in the warmth of the dry stone-walled terraces produce the much-liked Dolcetto dei terrazzamenti.

Skilful craftsmen have began once more working the local sandstone for the building of homes and chiselling of sculptures
