Tortugues De L'Albera - garriguella, Spain

In the Albera range, the most easterly stretch of the Pyrenees, lives the last natural population of
Mediterranean Tortoise (Testudo hermanni hermanni) of the Iberian Peninsula.

At the Albera Tortoise Breeding Centre (CRT)
there are installations for the breeding of ese tortoises, in order to boost the natural populations. This centre is also used as a place to study the different aspects of their biology and ecology and to heighten the need for their protection and conservation.

The CRT is open to the public to sensibilize the visitor to the problems this specie faces and to the work which is being done to save it from extinction.

The entrance fees, donations and contributions all go to the maintenance of the centre and to projects of the study and conservation of the mediterranean tortoise.

Thank you for your collaboration.
