Parco Delle Gole Della Breggia - Switzerland
The Parco delle Gole della Breggia (South Switzerland) founded in 1998 and inaugurated in 2001, is the first Swiss GeoPark. The Park extends for approximately 1.5 km along the river bearing the same name and occupies an area of 0.65 sq km (65 hectares) in the lower part of the Valle di Muggio on territory belonging to the communities of Balerna, Castel San Pietro, Morbio Inferiore and Morbio Superiore.
The Gorge contains numerous natural and anthropic features, but its extraordinary geological interest makes it one of the most important geotopes in Switzerland. It is listed in the inventory of landscapes, sites and natural monuments (IFP) and has been recognized as a model GeoPark by UNESCO
