Agriturismo Camisassi - Saluzzo, Italy
Porpano is an agritcultural property, situated on the outskirts of Saluzzo and has been owned by the Camisassi family for three generations.
The farm is built around a large square shaped inner courtyard, and was originally owned by Cistercian monk: in fact in 1525, there is a public act, which confers that the Marques of Saluzzo, Michele Antonio, donated the estate to the Cistercian Order of Monbracco. Now a large part of the building has been converted into a delightful country hotel Web: www.anticopoderepropano.com and in the remaining agritcultural section, next to the owners house, ten rooms have been created. The spacious rooms, with terra
cotta flooring, are decorated with vibrant natural colours and a mixture of vintage and contemporary
furniture. All are no smoking and equipped with satellite TV, internet connection and telephone. There is a garden for guests.
Saluzzeese is a vast territory that extends from the Monviso mountain chain to the fertile plains of the Po River and within it's boundaries lies Saluzzo the ancient capital of an important Marquisate that ruled the area for over 400 years until1601. Saluzzo still retrains many vestiges of the past and has an interesting historic
centre. Nearby are Staffarda Abbey, Manta Castle (owned by the FAI) and the Royal Palace of Racconigi, which was a summer residence of the savoy family until 1946. Interesting day trips include Turin, Italy's first capital, Alba and the Langhe, where the great wines of Italy are produced, the alpine valleys around Monviso and the Po river source.
