Mount of Capuchin - Turin, Italy
The Monte dei Cappuccini is one of Turin's landmarks.
In the 11th Century the Mount was a fortification (known as "bastita") to defend the city from at-tacks
and sieges.
In 1473 it became a private property.
In 1581, the owner noble Scaravello family, sold it to the Duke of Savoy, Carlo Emmanuele 1.
In 1891 the City of Turin approved the request of the Italian Alpine Club to open a branch and take over
the friary.
The Church: The first drafts date back to 1584
The Church was finished in 1637. It is in pre-baroque style, in the shape of a Greek cross.
The Friary and the Frairs: In 1583 the cross was erected on the square, thus officializing the presence
the Capuchin Frairs on the Mount which was Io take on their name.
From his foundation, the Mount of Capuchin has been a strong landmark for Turin's spiritual life.
Today still offers a Franciscan clime in a welcome home for young and other people that wish a
spiritual guide.
