The old city centre, protected by the city walls and encircled by the gentle loop of the River Bacchiglione.

Padua is not only a city of art and culture but also a religious centre.  The Saint's Basilica, repository of the
mortal remains of St. Anthony, has become a world spiritual venue.
The Basilica is a real treasure of works of art from the thirteenth century to the present day.
The main altar with its crufix, the statues and bronze reliefs by Donatello.
The fourteenth century chapels frescoed by Giusto de' Menabuoi, Altichiero da Zevio and Jacopo Avanzo.
The imposing sixteenth and seveneenth century mausoleums.
"St Anthony's citadel" is complete by the oratory of St. George, the walls of which are covered by Altichiero da Zevio, the School of the Saint, with works by Titian and the Antonine Museum.
