Bois Du Lac Eco-Museum - Belgium

The Bois-du-lac site is an Exceptional  Heritage Site of Wallonia and invites visitors to observe the daily
life and work of a miner and his family in the nineteenth century. The St Emmanuel mine was founded at
the beginning of the nineteenth century by the Bois-du-Lac Mining Company (which dated back to 1685) and its mine-shaft went down  558m below the surface. Near to the pit-head, the mining company built a model village for the miners and their families, including facilities linked to :
Food and Drink:  a grocer's shop, a butcher's shop, a flour mill and a brewery
Healthcare:           a hospital and an old people's home
Leisure:                 a village hall, a park with a pavillon and a playground
Education:            a school and a library
Religion:               St. Barbe's church
The village was run by a resident director.
