Montpellier - France
One of the greatest pleasures of Montpellier is simply walking around its civilised old town.
There are many charming and intimate squares throughout the centre, including the Place
de la Canourgue at the top of the old town, not far from the jardin des Plantes, which happens
to be France's oldest botanical gardens.
Or stop for a coffee or lunch in Place Jean Jaures. Place Carnot or Place petrarque.
The city is lively throughout the whole year. But in spring and summer is famous for its
festivals, concerts of opera, classical music as well as jazz.
The compact old town has plenty of affordable hotels.
