17th Sydney Biennial - Australia

"The beauty of Distance: Songs of Survival in a Precarious Age" is the show's title, almost a poetic manifesto, chosen by curator David Elliot. The central theme is connection - among places, cultures, languages and modes of expression that may appear far removed from each other, inter pares conversation among the art and artists of the world at large, as a key to understanding contemporary complexity. Venues for the biennial include Sydney's most conic locations (the Opera House, the Royal botanic gardens, Cockatoo Island, the Museum of Contemporary Art, the Artspace centre and the old wharf, Pier 2/3). Travel and Outdoor Festival - Canada

An event devoted entirely to outdoor physical activity and alternative travel, in contact with nature and as far removed as possible from the usual itineraries. The Travel and Outdoor Festival allows beginners and experts to prove their skill, from mountain climbing to diving, swimming, gliding, kayaking and canyoning. It's also a great opportunity to catch up on the latest sporting gear, trekking and camping equipment, and nature watching paraphernalia. The setting for the event is the large Jean- Drapeau urban park, which extends along the St. Lawrence River, past the islands of sainte-Helene and Notre-Dame. Festimad 2M - Madrid - Spain

This is one of the most eagerly cult events of spring in Madrid. Under the banner of "musical biodiversity", special attention is given to alternative sound and new urban cultures. The mission is to provide a sneak preview of the most interesting bits from the independent music scene, selecting thousands of proposals from all over the world. Since 1994, Festimad has explored the most diverse styles and genres (pop and rock, hip-hop, funky, soul, reggae, folk, fusion) offering emerging artists a major international showcase.
