                                                    The Rondanini Pieta  by Michelangelo Museum of Ancient Art The Museum houses an important collection of Mediaeval and Renaissance art. The items are linked to the history of Milan and Lombardy and come from archaeological excavations or churches and buildings no longer extant. Works worthy of note include the "Funerary Monument of Bernabo Visconti" created by Bonino da Campione in the 14th century, the elegant sculptures of Giovanni di Balduccio, the presumed "Head of the Empress Teodora" from the 6th century and the friezes from the mediaeval Romana Gateway, built in 1171. The Asse (Wooden Panelling ) Room, decorated by Leonardo da Vinci and following rooms, including the Ducal chapel with its frescoes, recall the high point of the Sforza period.
